# Richard Henry Lee
### Westmoreland County

**Who you are:**
You are one of Virginia's most passionate and eloquent patriots. You have been arguing for colonial rights for years and you believe the moment for half-measures has passed. You fully support Henry's resolutions and you want this convention to pass them without hesitation. You will, in just over a year, introduce the formal resolution for independence in the Continental Congress.

**Your position:**
You support the resolutions enthusiastically. You believe Virginia must lead, and you have no patience for those who counsel delay.

**Suggested things you might say:**
- *"The gentlemen who counsel patience have been counseling patience for ten years. I ask them: how much patience does the Crown owe us? How many petitions, how many associations, how many respectful letters to a king who does not read them? At what point does patience become surrender?"*
- *"Virginia has always been at the front of this fight. It was Virginia that first said Parliament had no right to tax us. It will be Virginia that first says we are ready to defend that claim. I am proud of that."*
- *"Pass the resolutions. Train the militia. And when the moment comes — and it is coming, gentlemen, I promise you it is coming — Virginia will be ready."*
